I just got back from 10 days in Mexico and want to share a few of the great places we dined in Mexico City.
- Vege Taco -A small, informal cafe that serves traditional Mexican food done vegetarian. Took us a minute to find it (it's easy to walk by) but I'm really glad we did - it was delicious. Be sure to order everything "sin queso,"
- Azul Condesa - A nice sit down place with limited vegan options. The ones we had were excellent though! They might have been the best tamales I've ever had (again, be sure to order "sin queso"), and the squash blossom enchiladas are vegan by default. Reservations recommended.
- Yug - I was really happy with my meal (a hot pot with onions, seitan, and nopales) but my dining partner found the meal just servicable. Vegetarian, so watch out for that queso (are you seeing a theme here?)!
- Papalo y Papalotl - Excellent all vegan cafe. Design-wise, this place could have been located in Los Angeles or Brooklyn. Small menu that changes based on local ingredients. We had lentil soup, mole, and chia seed pudding for dessert, plus I got to try the rosca de reyes cakes that I'd been seeing everywhere for Kings' Day! I found the baby figurine in mine, which means I have to make tamales for a party. I'll let you know how that goes!
